Summary

Cubicle for Reddit is a browser extension that changes how reddit.com looks on your own computer. It runs only on reddit.com. It sends nothing to the developer, to Google, or to any third party. Everything happens on your device or with reddit.com directly, using your own browser session.

If you install the extension and never open the developer's page again, that is the extent of what the extension will ever tell anyone about you.

What the extension does NOT do

What the extension handles, and where it stays

Reddit content, in your browser tab

When the alternate view is on, the extension fetches reddit.com pages the same way your browser would — using your existing Reddit session cookies — and re-renders them with a different visual layout. This includes the posts, comments and subscription list that the reddit.com website itself would show you. The content lives in your browser's memory for as long as the tab is open, is discarded when the tab closes or reloads, and is never written to disk by the extension or sent to anyone other than reddit.com itself.

Actions you take on your Reddit account

The extension can perform one action on your Reddit account: upvoting a post or comment when you click the reaction control on it. This is exactly the upvote you would cast on reddit.com, sent to reddit.com over your own session — the extension is only the button. It cannot downvote, comment, post, subscribe, unsubscribe, message, or change anything else about your account.

Local settings, on your device

Two small pieces of state are stored using Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local):

  1. Whether the alternate view is currently on for reddit.com, so the setting survives page reloads.
